Computer Eye Strain: An Eye Sight Protection Guide

Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved. PSALM 55:22

COMPUTER EYE STRAIN

Excessive use of computer can damage your eyesight. When you feel tired, dry, or burning sensation in your eyes after long hours of work before a computer monitor or computer screen is a symptom of having computer eyestrain. No worries, you can keep and continue working without damaging your eyesight while I suggest some help for protection.

1. Active-matrix LCD flat display is sharper and brighter than a CTR-based display screen.

2. Use a glare-reduction filter approved by the American Optometric Association.

3. Keep the screen 2 feet from your eyes.

4. Your line of sight on the screen must be 10-15 degrees below the point on the screen where you tend to look at.

5. Reduce glare. Make sure there will be no reflection of overhead lights or windows on the screen.

6. Don't work with screen that is blurred, dull or flickering. (cellular phones or fan vibration can cause flickering, so you must move them away.)

7. The lower part (near view) of bifocals are located for looking down, not straight ahead. You need single (not bifocal) lenses for computer work.

8. Dust the screen occasionally. Static electricity tends to coat it with dust.

9. Make your paperworks nearly the same height or angle as the screen and close to the same distance from your eyes.

10. Blink often to keep your eyes from drying out.

11. Take 5-10 minute breaks every hour.
